Senior Data Engineer

Permanent employee, Full-time · Helsinki

About the role

Do you wish your work in data could directly shape a company’s growth, and fight against food waste at the same time? We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to take a central role in developing and maintaining our data infrastructure at Foodello–Fiksuruoka.

We’re a purpose-driven scale-up on a mission to fight food waste globally, and our Data Team is at the heart of it. From powering smarter logistics to optimizing procurement and forecasting, data helps us save millions of kilos of food every year in Finland, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

What you'll be doing?

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring data integrity and seamless integrations between our source systems, our Snowflake Data Cloud Platform and reverse-ETL jobs. You’ll take ownership of keeping our data infrastructure resilient and reliable as we scale. That means exciting projects, making a meaningful impact on our business, and ultimately contributing to our mission of fighting food waste globally.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Implement, maintain and develop robust data ingestion pipelines for scalable growth.
  • Maintain and improve our data infrastructure (pipelines, storage, orchestration, DevOps).
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and analytics engineers to deliver data integrations that serve analytics needs.
  • Develop and maintain reverse-ETL processes that deliver business-critical data.

You’ll report to our Head of Data & Analytics, Dante, and work closely together to manage the data foundation for everything we do - from online sales to our first-ever physical store.

THE ROLE OF DATA & OUR TECH STACK

The purpose of the data team is simple: they enable data-driven decision-making across the company. From building and maintaining sophisticated data systems to delivering actionable insights through dashboards, the team ensures that our data is not only accessible but ready to be transformed into better decisions.

In the fight against food waste, data helps us to answer critical questions with precision, understand how our business grows, identify pain points or bottlenecks, and find areas where improvements offer the most impact.

We’re proud of our modern, evolving stack:

  • Terraform
  • GCP
  • Fivetran
  • dbt on Snowflake

About us

About Foodello–Fiksuruoka

We’re on a simple mission: fight food waste and help people save money.

Born in 2016 as a one-person garage project, Foodello–Fiksuruoka has grown into a team of 50+ energetic, international colleagues working across Finland, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Every day, we rescue surplus food that might otherwise be thrown away, from products with a new package design to batches that were simply overproduced. Instead of going to waste, these items get a second life in our online store at a great price.

Together with our customers and suppliers, we’ve already saved 15 million kilos of good food from going to waste. And we’re only just getting started.

If you’re looking to grow your expertise while fighting food waste, and want to join a small, international team that values sustainability, ownership, transparency, data-driven decisions, continuous learning, and kindness, Foodello–Fiksuruoka is the place for you.
